Helsinki whirlwind

Wednesday was our only full day in Helsinki, Finland. After a big buffet breakfast at our hotel we headed to the pharmacy in search of motion/sea sickness pills. A pharmacist was happy to show us where they were and described the dosage and frequency to us. We walked to Market Square where various vendors sold local berries, street food (we sampled some reindeer meatballs!), souvenirs and crafts. We took a short ferry ride to Suomenlinna (Castle of Finland) – an inhabited island that is home to an old sea fortress that overlooks the Baltic Sea.

Lunch on Suomenlinna – this cute cafe sold sandwiches, pastries, cake, ice cream, coffee, tea, and more. We shared a delicious smoked salmon sandwich and we picked up some local Suomenlinnan brewed beer and cider!

We met a friendly Finnish cat outside another cafe. We couldn’t resist stopping to play!
